"Summer & Fall: Sled Dog Safari"
June - November*
*This tour on wheels will be offered until we have approx 14 inches of snow on the ground at our location. Once we have approx 14 inches of snow on the ground we can switch to the Scenic Day Mushing Tour. This change-over typically happens in mid or late November.
No snow? No problem! We'll hook up a large team of energetic racing dogs to our wheeled buggy and take a sled dog safari! These tours are available during the times of year when there is not enough snow for mushing on traditional dog sleds (June through mid-November). Our specialty is authentic mushing experiences -- tour groups are kept very small, sometimes just a single family or a couple. Wander through our dog yard, meet and pet the dogs (summer tours have puppies!), enjoy the view, and ask us questions about whatever you like -- sled dogs, racing, life in Alaska or living off-grid.
"Sled Dog Safari" Tour description:
We'll start the tour by introducing you to Alaskan Huskies -- where they came from, why they all look so different, and why they are the most popular sled dog used for racing. We encourage you to walk around the dog yard and meet their different personalities. They're super friendly! However, they are not super polite: you can expect lots of jumping and licking. We recommend wearing clothes that you don't care too much about. After you're done in the dog yard, we'll take you down to our "hook up area" and prepare you for riding in our 5-passenger buggy. It's surprisingly comfortable and safe for the whole family. Let us know if you're really feeling up for a challenge and we can show you how to harness the dogs. Hold on tight! Hooking up a dog team might be easier than it sounds. Then we'll take off! The trail is 1 to 3 miles in length, depending on the weather conditions. We'll stop multiple times so you can take pictures and change positions in the buggy. When your ride is over, we'll let the dogs loose for some free time, then show you all of our most important winter gear, including the dog sled. Stand on the runners and "say cheese!" We end our summer tours by showing off this year's puppies!
